What is physical fitness?
Physical fitness is any activity that involves moving your body. It includes everyday activities, physically active play, and organized sports and exercises. It can be light/moderate/vigorous physical activity, energetic play, or activities that strengthen muscles and bones.
Being physically active can improve brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of diseases, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Adults who sit less and do any amount of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity gain some health benefits. At Credence High School, we strive to inculcate physical fitness in our students as part of our curriculum by offering extracurricular activities that include:
- SWIMMING
- DANCING
- MUSIC
- KARATE

- CRICKET
- FOOTBALL
- TABLE TENNIS
- BADMINTON
Physical fitness in children:
Physical fitness in children strengthens their bones, muscles, hearts, and lungs. Improves children's coordination, balance, posture, and flexibility. It also helps children maintain a healthy weight. Physical activity boosts children’s well-being. For example, active children are more likely to be confident and feel like they belong as well as concentrate better at school. Physical activity is an important part of play and learning. Your child can do physical activity in small blocks of time throughout the day. The key thing is that your child does enough physical activity overall. And the more physical activity your child does and the less time your child spends sitting, the better it is for your child.
Benefits of Physical fitness:
Physical fitness refers to the ability of your body systems to work together efficiently to allow you to be a healthy person and perform activities of daily living. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Few are the benefits of physical fitness for child development:
- Academic Performance
- Brain Health.
- Muscular Fitness.
- Heart and Lung Health
- Cardiometabolic Health.
- Long-term Health.
- Bone Strength.
- Healthy Weight.
Physical activity at Home for children:
Make physical activity part of their daily routine. From household chores to an after-dinner walk, keep your family active every day. Allow enough time for free play. Kids can burn more calories and have more fun by playing tag, riding bikes around the neighborhood, dancing or skipping. Keep a variety of games and sports equipment on hand. It doesn't have to be expensive — an assortment of balls, hula-hoops, and jump ropes can keep kids busy for hours. Be active together. It'll get you moving, and kids love to play with their parents. Limit time spent in sedentary activities, such as watching TV, using electronic devices, being online, and playing video games.
Physical activity for children with additional needs:
Children feel better and grow stronger when they feel the joy of movement. This is especially important for children who have special educational needs /physical limitations. Here are some interesting activities that the parent can begin the day with fun physical play. Adjust each activity to meet your child’s needs.
3-5 years, children should be physically active for at least 3 hours each day. This includes one hour of energetic play in school and at home. Home activities could include Sneak-peak games - A sneak peek dressing game at home. Peaking each piece of clothing hidden around the room and getting dressed in the process or Bedtime Games - Let your child pick matching pajamas. Wearing the same pajamas as your child will make the act of going to bed a fun dress-up game. Talk about the day and have your child set goals for the next physical day of play. Learn what they liked and disliked to hone in on activities that reward them physically and emotionally.
5-18 years, children should do at least one hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity plus several hours of light physical activity each day. And at least 3 days a week, this should include activities that strengthen muscles and bones. Home activities can include stretching - Including morning stretching activity in our day-to-day chores and things available at home. For example – playing tug of war with a towel. Mix it up with directions to tug left and right or Have a dance party! What better way to exercise than dancing? Dancing games are the best and a fun way to make your kids learn and exercise. Dancing on number counts/beats, musical chairs, pausing when the music stops, and much more.
Jumping Jacks are also fabulous exercises for kids of all age groups! Fun with jumping. Research has shown that jumping increases a child's metabolic rate, helping the child's body to process nutrients faster and more efficiently, keeping their weight healthy. Both sides of a child's brain and body work in tandem to maintain good coordination and balance.
Physical activity is important for all. Choosing an activity according to your child’s needs and likes is always important. Physical fitness should be fun. If your child has additional needs, or you have any concerns about the amount and type of physical activity your child gets, it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor or another health professional.
Forever fit, forever strong! Stay healthy and happy. Raise the bar of your fitness. Fitness should be your attitude.
