INTENT: Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi had organized an exhibition of the tribal artists which was about expressing themselves and to showcase the glimpses of the rich aesthetic sense of ethnic tribes such as Sauras, Santhals, Kolhas, Kandhas and Parajas of Orissa. Sauras are among the most ancient tribes in India.
EXPERIENCE: Saura painting is a style of wall mural painting and is also called ikons or idtal visually hold religious significance for the Sauras. This was one-of-a-kind experience. To get to see artists from minority backgrounds coming here to express their talents through their art and the amazing cultural and religious meanings behind their paintings. Seeing how every artist had such unique paintings and ideas while still following the traditional art method was truly amazing.
INSIGHT: In all the paintings we saw, we found so many things in common like the small details were made using a cone and textured white paint, some even used the texture white to make a textured background to paint on.
